GT Tools® 3" hook and loop sanding discs are used to remove heavy surface damage from plastics and headlights.  The sanding materials use a micron gauge that allows users to start at the appropriate aggression and work down.  Use these materials if the plastic is scratched, pitted, crazed, or rough to touch.  Once the surface is smooth use foam and felt materials in conjunction with Diamond Acrylic Compound to achieve professional finish.

  • What are the micron disc equivalent to? For example the grade 60, 30, 15, and 9. I see 400 grade, 800, 1500, 3000

Hey Pat, here are the rough grit values of the different micron grades. (60 micron=250 grit, 30 micron=600 grit, 15 micron=1200 grit, 9 micron=1800 grit). Let us know if you need any further information!

They sand stuff

Grit variety is nice. Hold up fairly well but be careful if you're using them to polish something delicate. Usually it's the paper backing that falls apart on sandpaper while walking through the grits. On these, the grit seems to come off first, then material begins to build up and you're left with a gunk ball that risks scratching your part. It only happens when I'm trying to pinch pennies and get more mileage out of them than I have any business getting.

Otherwise, they are good. These are the only sanding I need to achieve an optically clear finish on acrylic parts, regardless of the machined finish. Having it all on a drill is a big deal.
